U2 Songs of Innocence: Where is Cedarwood Road?

Cedarwood Road is a street in Glasnevin, Co Dublin where Bono grew up and is the name of a U2 song on their 13th studio album, Songs of Innocence.

The song's lyrics talk about Dublin. Bono sings:

"Northside just across the river to the Southside.

"That’s a long way here."

He says in the hometown ode:

"You can't return to where you've never left."

"It was a warzone in my teens."

The Hewsons lived in the Cedarwood Road house until 1986.

The street name has been a popular search on google with eager U2 fans keen to know where the road is. A neighbour of Bono's Bob Conway said: “I grew up just a few doors literally from the Hewsons.

“We grew up at a time when younger people were looking for a new way forward.

Speaking on RTE Radio One's Liveline he added: "Then on Cederwood road we started hearing Bono and the three boys practicing in the garage.

Another neighbour Angela Massey said: “I had a little dog and he knocked him down.

“He came to my door the next day and he wanted to know how the dog was - he was a terribly nice young fella.”

Michelle Boyle spoke about her memories of living on the road: “My mother rang up Bono because he refused to go to the debs of my sister’s friend.

"It was a great road to grow up on. Lots of really good neighbours.”

U2 made a surprise appearance at the Apple iPhone 6 launch on Tuesday night and it is U2's first in five years.
